Discontinuation of a Test
We expect that the analyses will provide guidance for formal discontinuation criteria, as well as potential “start” and “stop” points by age for the tests. For now, the guidelines for discontinuing a test are to be aware of difficulty level and to stop a test or a section of a test where the following items are increasing in difficulty. For example, on 01 Visual Praxis: Designs, the items in Part 1 are presented in order of difficulty, with Part 2 starting over with more simple items. Therefore, on that test, if a child received 2 or 3 0’s in a row (we expect that testers can use judgement regarding the reason a child is scoring 0, (e.g., ability versus momentary distraction or motivation and thus decide whether to wait for a 3rd 0 or not). On test 02 Visual Perception: Search, all items are presented in order of difficulty (i.e. there is not a section that starts over with easier items) therefore, if a child scores 0 on 2 or 3 items the entire test can be discontinued.
On the EASI Scoring Program (ESP), items not administered should be entered as “skipped”.
