Scoring Notes
08 Ocular: Motor and Praxis (O:M & Pr): Rasch analysis determined that the first 3 sections of this test (Ocular Pursuits, Ocular stabilization and Ocular Quick Localization) measure a unified function, while the last items (Ocular Praxis) are measuring a different function. Therefore, the ESP provides two scores on this test: Ocular Motor (OcM) and Ocular Praxis (Pr: Oc)
19 Tactile Perception: Oral (TP:O) Based on the preliminary norms, the ESP does not provide a z-score for 3 year olds on this test. We hope that the final norms will clarify if 3-year-olds can be scored on this test.
Based on the Preliminary norms, the ESP does not provide a standard score on 2 of the 20 tests (07 Proprioception: Force (Prop: F) and 20 Sensory Reactivity (SR).
07 Proprioception: Force: Early analyses suggested that the “crayon items” (1-6) and the “rolling rice bottle items” (7-10) measure different aspects of function. We are exploring expanding the score by including the “first roll to the middle” score as a score for that section. Testers will not see a score from the ESP based on the preliminary norms, but hopefully we will be able to produce a score once the final norms are analyzed. In the meantime, the test may be useful as an observation and testers should be clear about emphasizing to the child to try to roll the bottle to the MIDDLE line on the first roll, and then for the 2nd roll to emphasize trying to roll to exactly the same place as where the bottle landed on the first roll.
20 Sensory Reactivity: We are hopeful that the EASI will allow us to have a performance-based score on sensory reactivity. In the preliminary norms there were so few responses of either HYPER or HYPO SR on any items in the typical sample that a z-score is not possible. This is good news in terms of the possibility that sensory reactivity issues are not existing in children developing typically. We are exploring other ways to provide feedback about the extent of sensory reactivity differences when a child is tested for an assessment.
