The EASI tests measure sensory and motor abilities that support a child’s ability to process and tolerate sensory information from the body and the environment, and to use that sensory information to conceptualize and organize actions effectively. Difficulties in sensory integration may result in challenges with learning, behavior, and participation in a variety of adaptive skills including academic achievement and social interactions. Sensory integration concerns can be seen with and without other cooccurring diagnoses or health concerns and in different ways depending on age. Use of the EASI in clinical assessment is designed not only to identify the specific sensory and motor challenges that affect a child’s functioning in everyday life, but also the sensory motor functions that are supporting their learning and participation. This information can be used to select and plan interventions that are individually tailored to each child, building on their strengths, to address their sensory-motor needs.
